Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance That Covers Loss Of Job FAQ

Isn't there a sort of redundancy insurance or mortgage insurance provided by the state? Surely I don't need accident, sickness and unemployment insurance.

If you have more than £8,000 savings you will not be eligible for income support and that means you will get no help. You should consider accident, sickness and unemployment insurance.

Is there a 'state' redundancy insurance?

If you took out your mortgage before October 2, 1995, you will receive no help for 8 weeks. For the next 18 weeks, the state will pay half your mortgage interest payments.

If you had your mortgage after October 2, 1995, you will receive nothing for 39 weeks. Mortgage insurance benefit is for the first £100,000 only. If you have unemployment insurance, you won't have to worry.

So there is no state redundancy insurance or mortgage insurance if I can't work. So what do I do?

The best approach is to buy accident, sickness and unemployment insurance, otherwise known as mortgage protection insurance. It is also referred to as accident, sickness and unemployment insurance and it provides financial protection.

How does Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance work?

The level of Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance depends on mortgage size. The Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance policy will pay, usually by making direct mortgage insurance payments to your lender. Mortgage insurance benefit will normally be paid for a maximum of 12 months. Mortgage Insurance payments stop when you return to work.

Can the Mortgage Protection Insurance cover the premiums for savings plans linked to a mortgage?

Yes. The Mortgage Protection Insurance can cover monthly premiums on an endowment policy, or an ISA.

Usually between 18 and 65.

Is there Mortgage Protection Insurance for the self-employed?

Yes, but check the small print of the Mortgage Protection Insurance, exclusions can make claiming redundancy insurance difficult. Most mortgage insurance companies will only accept a claim if you have involuntarily ceased trading. Even with unemployment insurance, you must have register for JSA.

Contract workers must choose unemployment insurance carefully. Most Mortgage protection insurance companies will accept a claim only if the worker is either on an annual contract that has been renewed at least once. With different contracts a redundancy insurance claim will be accepted only if they have spent 6 months with the same employer and the contract has been renewed twice. In this case unemployment insurance will pay only if the contract has been terminated early, and the unemployment insurance benefit will be paid only until the date the contract would have expired.

Do Mortgage Protection Insurance policies cover part-time workers?

Yes. Most Mortgage protection insurance policies will cover those working part time provided they work 16 hours per week.

Insurance Job Interview Advice - Ten Foolproof Tips for Getting Insurance Jobs

Insurance job interviews are never easy. It's difficult to make a good impression & even harder to impress your interviewer. We've come up with ten top tips to help you get the insurance job you'd been hoping for.

1. Learn About the Company - you can never be over-prepared for a job interview. Spend some time browsing the insurance company's website. Learn about their products & services as well as their competitors. It will make you seem much more knowledgeable and show that you are taking the interview seriously.

2. Think About The Questions - No matter how the interview is conducted there are a number of questions that you are likely to be asked. "Tell us about your experience?" or "What attracted you to apply for the job?" while the wording might change what they are to trying to find out will not. You don't need to script a response that will sound artificial. Though for questions you are likely to be asked, think in advance about how you will answer.

3. Look at your CV - It's easy to forget what you've put in your CV or covering letter. It's likely all your interviewer will know about you is contained in those documents, so it's likely to prompt a number of their questions. Refresh yourself with their content in advance so you're primed for the questions.

4. Dress Appropriately - It's not always sensible to wear a suit to a job interview but it is important to dress approriately smart. Try and find out about the dress code of the company and then dress a little smarter. It's important to make a good first impression but you have to be comfortable.

5. Answer Concisely - There's one thing worse than a bad answer in a job interview. A long answer. Try to answer the question with out getting carried away in the detail. It's important not to seem abrupt but it important not to get carried away with your answers either. It makes you seem unsure of your answer & can waste valuable interview time when you could be impressing your potential employer.

6. Use Good Body Language - Shrugging & using "closed" body language can ruin a perfectly good interview. Try your best to be relaxed & open. Use your hands expressively & think about mirroring the body language of your interviewer.

7. Ask Questions - try and prepare some questions for your interview. It can make you seem interested in the role & shows you are keen on the job. However don't ask obvious questions or those which could be easily answered if you had done some prior research.

8. Be On Time - People get delayed all the time so leave some extra leeway in your travelling time. If you turn up late you are fighting a battle to impress your potential bosses so much they forget about your poor punctuality.

Why Your Job Interview Didn't Bring You a New Job

A job search has many components. Perhaps none is more critical than the job interview. In a tough economy, just getting an interview invitation can be a significant milestone along the journey to full employment. One of the most common questions job seekers bring to a career counselor goes like this:

"I've achieved some success in getting interviews. Sometimes I even get a second interview. Then...nothing happens. What's wrong?"

Typically, job seekers look for answers in the interview process. They wonder if they need to practice their interview skills. Sometimes, they can benefit from coaching on basic interview techniques. For example, when you are asked, "Do you have questions?" your interviewer doesn't expect questions about hours, workload and benefits. She wants you to demonstrate your interest in the company. It's an opportunity to show you have done your research. Once you have an offer, you can dig deeper into working conditions and compensation structure.

However, many seasoned executives and managers have superb interview skills. They know how to field even difficult questions and they know how to conduct themselves professionally.

Therefore, sometimes interview challenges begin at the beginning of a job search. Your resume might be getting you interviews, but your resume is not targeted properly. As a result, you wind up talking to hiring managers who are very impressed but recognize, "There's just not a fit here."

Finally, you may be dealing with pseudo-interviews. These employers have no intention of hiring you. However, they are going through the motions because (a) their HR person said they need to look at more candidates or (b) they are just curious to see "what's out there."

When I was an academic, I went on lots of pseudo-interviews. University officials were extremely concerned about meeting EEO regulations. They also had to follow arcane policies and procedures that called for committee meetings.

Once I went on a pseudo-interview in Boston. I told the dean I'd be staying an extra night in the very nice interview hotel at my own expense. No problem, he said. They paid for the whole thing...probably out of guilt.

Companies sometimes feel they are doing you a favor if they talk to you, even if they won't hire you. Occasionally you will impress an employer during a pseudo-interview and you'll get a job you didn't expect. More often it's a hassle and expense: after all, they won't pay for dry cleaning your suit or boarding your dog.
