Welding jobs - are not enough welders for all welding jobs? Is your Really Welder Shortage?

There is a shortage of skilled welders in this country. In other words, there are more jobs than there are welding welder. I'm really happy way to hear about it. Thirty years ago, when I heard in the welding school, I do stories about the demand for welders so large that it actually welding neon advertising. I also heard stories of welders that tons of money on welding work on the Alaska pipeline and to nuclear installationsthat in the construction or failure. Sure, there were a lot of demand for welders and the unions were also considering welders who can pass a welding certification exam on the topic "make work". In other words, they would, "authorization" You have a job and make welding wages until they had held a connection to your husband. I honestly do not even know what a union, but I knew I wanted to earn more money.

I took my first welding certification examination in 1978 and worked as a boilermakerWelders for $ 10.26 per hour. Since the minimum wage in 1978 was about $ 2.65 and gas was 60 cents per gallon, $ 10.26 one hours was some really good coin.

Some friends of mine had exactly the same welding process, such as training, but I decided they do not want to work out of town and then they took local welding jobs for about $ 6 an hour. So that the wage gap between that time was the heavy equipment manufacturing in the local shop or work as an apprentice welder in forcePlants and paper mills. Today, some thirty years later, I often hear from entry-level welders only 9-10 dollars an hour to press for the trigger on a large flux core gun and sucking in smoke all day. Why would someone want to do this? I mean, why work as a welder for $ 9 per hour, more if you can make driving a forklift truck or storage shelves in a grocery store? Less sweat and smoke less, the same money.

I say this:

Things are made of metal, because it is aneed for them to be strong and take too long. In other words, someone could die if the thing fails, metal beats.
It takes skill to be able to be a sweat test and then welds that have a solid, satisfying to code requirements, and that takes time.
It takes a "seat time" to acquire the skills set needed to make consistent, high-quality welds.
Good enough as good as ever.
A skillfully welders needed in the "seat time" to set itselfcommand is worthy of his hire.

I was welding a large living room, but I did not to either one of my sons to become a welder. Why? Because I do not want to suck smoke and chromium for nine dollars per hour, that's why. Welder salary at the time seemed frozen by 1989, up until recently.

But now it seems to swing the pendulum the other way.

I spoke to a friend of mine, a welding training center in North Carolina is the administration that says the goodold days are on the way back, and that there is a similar situation today, where there are more jobs than there are skilled welding workers. Once again, are in very high demand for welders, welders that can pass through a welding certification test that.

In fact, the training center of Carolina Energy Solutions, was heard recently on a TV news program and the Carolina Energy Solutions, welding instructors featured talk of a shortage of welders and welding procedures, such as their educationFacility could not even come close to the demand.

More welding work as a qualified welder? I like the sound of that. Again ... Now is the time to the things around us welders.

Bring it on!
